Nor'easters Sweep Monks, 3-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine – University of New England (6-4) swept Saint Joseph's College (5-9) in three sets (25-23, 25-17, 25-13) in a non-conference women's volleyball match on Thursday night.

The first set was close throughout and featured seven lead changes with nine tie scores before the Nor'easters escaped with a two-point win with the help of a pair of SJC errors.

UNE led for the majority of play in a second-set 25-17 triumph en route to claiming a 2-0 advantage. The in-state rivals swapped the lead five times and played through seven lead changes early in the third set, but the hosts broke free from an 8-8 deadlock with an 8-0 run and cruised to the clinching 25-13 win.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Sophomore Nadia Sixto (Chattanooga, Tenn.) delivered nine kills on 20 attempts with a pair of block assists
  • Sophomore Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) tallied six kills and eight digs
  • Senior Kailyn Chamberlin (Milford, N.H.) added 14 assists and four digs
  • Senior Abby Jerome (Barrington, N.H.) chipped in with nine digs

LEADERS – UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND:

  • Ellijah Hanley notched seven kills, two aces, five digs, and two block assists
  • Kendall Gallaugher belted seven kills on 12 attempts
  • Viktoria Pavlyuk added five kills, three aces, and four digs
  • Kassidy Bradshaw recorded 18 assists, five aces, three kills, 12 digs, and four block assists

Saint Joseph's will play in a GNAC tri-match at Johnson & Wales University on Saturday. The Monks will face Dean College at 1:00 PM and the host Wildcats at 3:00 PM.
