Briones Named GNAC Player of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors have been released and Saint Joseph's College junior outside hitter Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) has been named as the GNAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week.

Briones led the Monks to a 2-1 week by averaging 3.11 kills and 3.56 digs with a .254 hitting percentage in nine sets last week. The sophomore outside hitter was pivotal in a GNAC tri-match sweep at Emmanuel on Saturday, when she netted 13 kills and 17 digs with a career-best .600 hitting percentage against Mitchell and posted nine kills and seven digs in a win over the Saints.

Her play at Emmanuel helped the Monks avoid the play-in round (seeds 7-10) and earn the #6 seed in the GNAC Tournament. Saint Joseph's will play at #3 Johnson & Wales on Tuesday at 7:00 PM in quarterfinal action.

In 28 matches and 95 total sets so far this season, Briones leads the team in kills (236), attacks (716), service aces (55), and digs (371) and has established career highs in each category. She currently ranks fifth in the GNAC in aces, seventh in aces per set (0.58), eighth in digs, and 10th in digs per set (3.91).

Briones is just the fourth player in SJC volleyball history – and first since 2015 – to earn GNAC Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honors, as she joins Felicia Wachowiak '16 (9x selection), Sarah Hawkes '12 (4x), and Monique Lajoie '07 on the prestigious list.

As a freshman, Briones earned GNAC Rookie and Libero of the Week accolades on September 19th and has been listed on the GNAC weekly honor four times during her career.
