NEWTON, MA - Saint Joseph's (8-18, 1-7 GNAC)
followed a three-set loss (8-25, 13-25, 9-25) to Lasell with a
sweep over Albertus Magnus (25-12, 25-12, 25-8) in a conference
doubleheader on Saturday. Mary
Hoyt '11 (Rochester, NH) and
Katie Boccanelli '12 (Cottonwood,
AL) collected 11 kills apiece in the split.
In the three-set loss to Lasell, Samantha
Varrell '12 (Portsmouth, NH) collected 12 assists
and five digs and Kaleigh McHale
'12 (Dracut, MA) notched five digs. Hoyt had six
kills and Boccanelli dealt five kills in the
losing bid.
Boccanelli led the charge against Albertus Magnus
with six kills while Hoyt continued her solid play
with five kills and four aces in the program's first-ever GNAC
victory. Varrell chipped in with 10 assists and
five digs in the opening game before leaving the match due to an

(Somersworth, NH) filled in admirably, with 10 assists while
playing out of position. Team captain Amanda
Ruel '09 (Biddeford, ME) blasted a career-best six
aces and Karen King '12
(Scarborough, ME) posted five digs and four kills in the conference
triumph.
St. Joe's will travel to Saint Joseph College (CT) next Saturday
for another conference tri-match against the host Blue Jays and
Simmons College.
