Monks Serve Way to Victory

STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's (7-17, 0-6 GNAC) used 22 service aces to sweep Thomas College (3-16, 1-3 NAC) in non-conference volleyball action on Wednesday evening. Eight different SJC players recorded aces and Mary Hoyt '11 (Rochester, NH) led the way with seven to help steer the Royal Blue to victory.

In a match that required only 55 minutes to complete, the Lady Monks set the tone in the first set, winning 25-5, and didn't look back. St. Joe's defeated the Terriers in the second set, 25-17, and posted a 25-10 triumph in the third to complete the sweep.

Kiersten Carbone '12 (North Reading, MA) led the Lady Monks with six kills and added five digs and three aces while Hoyt recorded six digs in the match. Samantha Varrell '12 (Portsmouth, NH) chipped in with nine assists, six digs and four kills, Jordan Pelczar '12 (Meredith, NH) notched six digs and five assists and Kaleigh McHale '12 (Dracut, MA) register five digs in the victory. Megan Williams '12 (Somersworth, NH) posted three aces and four digs in her first collegiate action.

Jennifer Nantel '12 (Sanford, ME) and Sarah Marckoon '13 (Lamoine, ME) both notched nine digs in the losing effort for the Terriers.

Saint Joseph's will play Albertus Magnus and Lasell College in a conference tri-match at Lasell in Newton, MA on Saturday, October 18th.
