BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England got off to a
7-0 start in the first set and cruised to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-23,
25-16) win over St. Joseph's College of Maine in non-conference
women's volleyball action Tuesday evening at the Campus Center.
Sophomore Kristen Edwards (Laconia, N.H.) recorded a match-high
eight kills in limited playing time for the Nor'easters (16-12).
Junior Ellen Choinski (Saunderstown, R.I.) posted a double-double
with 19 assists and 11 digs. Senior Josie Raphaelito (Pine Hill,
N.M.) had 11 digs and was 11-for-11 on serves received, while
sophomore Nichole Cook (Candor, N.Y.) contributed three kills and
four total blocks in her first collegiate start.
First-year Samantha Varrell
(Portsmouth, N.H.) had a double-double for the Monks with 19
assists and a match-best 14 digs. Sophomore Mary
Hoyt (Rochester, N.H.) put down six kills and
first-year Megan Williams
(Somersworth, N.H.) added five.
Kaliopy Hologitas '12 (Rockland,
MA) chipped in with nine digs while team captain
Amanda Ruel '09 (Biddeford, ME)
recorded seven digs in the loss.
The Lady Monks (9-20) host Mount Ida College and Johnson and Wales
University for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match
beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

that same day when first-place Endicott College and third-place
Gordon College come to Biddeford to battle the second-place
Nor'easters. Start time is 11:00 a.m.
