Razsa Steps Down as Volleyball Coach

STANDISH, ME – The Saint Joseph's College Athletics Department has announced that John Razsa has stepped down from his position as Head Volleyball Coach.

Razsa leaves the program ranking as the Monks' all-time winningest coach with 133 victories in nine seasons. He first joined the St. Joe's staff in the fall of 1992 and guided the Royal Blue for six years, including three 20-win campaigns and a 27-10 mark in 1995. The win tally that year ranks as the program high-water mark and Razsa collected Maine Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors following the season's completion.

Razsa led the Monks to Maine Athletic Conference titles in 1996 and 1997 and coached players that earned 13 All-Conference, eight All-State and three All-District nominations during his first stint at St. Joe's. He recruited one of the finest players to ever don the Royal Blue on the court in Karen Heslin '98, who notched conference top rookie and top player honors during her career and remains as the program's only All-America honoree.

Razsa returned in the fall of 2007 to lead the Monks once again as Saint Joseph's began play as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. He took the reins for a rebuilding program and helped St. Joe's post a 16-17 effort, the team's highest win total since 1997, in 2009.

"We are very appreciative for all of John's hard work and commitment to the Saint Joseph's College Volleyball program, which he leaves on firm ground upon his departure," adds Athletic Director Brian Curtin. "We know how important volleyball has been throughout his career and wish him well as he approaches new challenges."
