STANDISH, ME - The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has
announced its weekly honors and Saint Joseph's College Volleyball
freshman Sarah Hawkes (Pownal,
ME/Freeport) has been garnered Rookie of the Week honors for the
second week in a row.
In a 2-1 week for the Monks, Hawkes recorded 35
kills - against just 5 errors - in 68 attempts to post a stellar
.441 hitting percentage. The freshman middle blocker netted 12
kills against Maine-Farmington on Wednesday and 15 kills against
Albertus Magnus on Sunday.
Through 17 matches, Hawkes leads the Monks with
192 kills and 38 total blocks. Her current hitting percentage of
.329 also leads the team and, if maintained throughout the season,
would easily rank as the highest mark in the last ten seasons at
Saint Joseph's. As of September 28th, Hawkes
ranked third in the GNAC in hitting percentage and kills.
Three SJC freshmen have accounted for all four of the GNAC Rookie
of the Week awards to date this fall. Kiah Begley '13 (Berwick,
ME/St. Thomas Aquinas) earned the honor on September 7th and
Caitlin Cleary '13 (Scarborough, ME) was tabbed as the league's
best rookie on September 14th.
The Monks will play again this Saturday when they host Emerson
(11:00 AM) and Lasell (3:00 PM) in a conference tri-match.
