STANDISH, ME - A program-record 387 fans flocked to the Harold Alfond Center on Thursday evening as Saint Joseph's (12-10, 3-3 GNAC) fell, 3-2, to non-conference opponent Daniel Webster College (6-4) on Thursday evening. Kiah Begley '13 (Berwick, ME) picked up her fifth double-double of the fall with 25 assists and 16 digs and, with an assist on the Monks' seventh point in the second set, became the second player in the last 12 seasons at St. Joe's to record over 500 assists in a single season*.

Caitlyn DePierro '12 (Billerica, MA) dealt a match-high 31 assists for Daniel Webster, while teammates Chelsey Crawford '13 (Westfield, MA) (15 kills, 10 digs) and Kristina Rieger '10 (Concord, NH) (11 kills, 12 digs) both recorded double-doubles in the triumph. Catherine Ferraro '13 (Litchfield, NH) notched 18 digs to lead all players in the five-set duel.

For the Monks, Sarah Hawkes '13 (Pownal, ME) matched Begley's effort with 16 digs and collected 9 kills and Caitlin Cleary '13 (Scarborough, ME) recorded 12 digs and 8 kills in the losing effort. Leocadya Koziski '13 (Peabody, MA) and Samantha Varrell '12 (Portsmouth, NH) both notched 11 digs for Saint Joseph's.

The assembly of SJC supporters far surpassed the previous fan total, 200, for a St. Joe's volleyball match and, despite the unfortunate outcome, did not leave disappointed. Not only did the crowd play witness to an entertaining and even match, they also participated in various contests and drawings throughout the night. Since the record was broken, all fans in attendance will receive a t-shirt as a token of appreciation for helping set the new mark.

Saint Joseph's will next play at Husson University in a non-conference match on October 14 th at 7:00 PM. Daniel Webster will play at Mitchell College on Saturday as the first leg of a conference tri-match at 11:00 AM.
