STANDISH, ME - The Saint Joseph's volleyball team fell to 12-8
overall and 3-3 in GNAC play after losing to conference foes
Emerson (14-4, 4-0) and Lasell (6-9, 3-1), 3-0 and 3-2,
respectively, on Saturday afternoon. Kiah
Begley '13 (Berwick, ME/St. Thomas Aquinas)
recorded 56 assists and Caitlin
Cleary '13 (Scarborough, ME) had 45 digs and 22
kills in the two-match set. Emerson defeated Lasell 3-0 in the
sandwich match.
Emerson proved to be very efficient in the opener with just 8
errors in 78 attempts with 27 kills and an SJC opponent high .244
hitting percentage. Lauren Zaniboni '11 (San Diego, CA) led the way
with 9 kills and no miscues in 21 attempts to go with 10 digs and 4
total blocks. Teammate Erin Connolly '10 (Quincy, MA) chipped in
with 9 kills and 7 digs and Jessica Drumright '12 (San Francisco,
CA) notched a team-high 13 assists in the triumph.
The Monks attempted 100 attacks against the Lions, but the visitors
countered with 56 digs, also an opponent-high for a three-set
match, to offset the effort. Cleary and
Karen King '12 (Scarborough, ME)
both collected 9 digs and Begley had a game-high
15 assists in the loss.
The Monks set new team season-highs by wide margins with 250
attacks and 164 digs in the nightcap loss to Lasell, but the Lasers
recorded amazing totals of 165 digs and 52 kills en route to
victory in the closely-contested match.
For the Monks, Cleary had 36 digs and 18 kills and
Sarah Hawkes '13 (Pownal, ME)
notched 40 digs and 14 kills in a losing effort.
Begley added 41 assists and 26 digs and
Jordan Pelczar '12 (Meredith, NH)
collected 21 digs for the Royal Blue. Leocadya
Koziski '13 (Peabody, MA) and
Kaliopy Hologitas '12 (Rockland,
MA) both netted 17 digs in the conference match.
For the Lasers, Danielle Drapeau '12 (Biddeford, ME) registered a
match-high 19 kills and Elizabeth Nichols '13 (Southington, CT)
posted 18 kills. Amanda Major '10 (Southbury, CT) had 43 digs and
Meghan Crozier '12 (Ballston Spa, NY) netted 43 assists and 23 digs
in the win.
Saint Joseph's will try get back on the winning track when the
Monks play host to non-conference opponent Bates College on Tuesday
at 7:00 PM.
