WESTON, MA - Saint Joseph's (3-2) defeated Salem State 3-0
(25-16, 25-20, 25-16) and Regis (25-23, 25-27, 25-22, 25-21) before
falling to Worcester State 2-3 (25-22, 19-25, 19-25, 26-24, 12-15)
and forfeiting to Norwich on Saturday in the Pride Invitational.
Several young players posted outstanding efforts for the Monks,
including Kiah Begley '13
(Berwick, ME), who recorded 88 assists, and Sarah
Hawkes '13 (Pownal, ME), who notched 40 kills.
The 3-0 start was the first for the Monks since 1997, when the
Royal Blue went on to post a 22-14 record and win a conference
championship, as well as advance to the New England Regional
Tournament, under Head Coach John
Razsa. The victory over Regis was the Monks' first
in five attempts dating back to the 2006 campaign.
Saint Joseph's will play Rhode Island College at 9:00 AM and
Worcester Polytechnic Institute at 1:30 PM before heading back to
Standish on Sunday.

Caitlin Cleary '13 (Scarborough,
ME) notched 11 kills in the five-set loss to Worcester and 26
overall for the day...Cleary also recorded seven
aces and 15 digs in 12 sets of play...Kaleigh
McHale '12 (Dracut, MA) had nine digs against both
Worcester and Regis and tallied 21
total...Samantha Varrell '12
(Portsmouth, NH) netted 14 digs and 10
assists...Jordan Pelczar '12
(Meredith, NH) registered 15 kills.
