Volleyball Stumps Beavers, 3-0

FARMINGTON, ME – Saint Joseph's improved to 10-6 overall with a 3-0 victory over University of Maine-Farmington (2-8) on Tuesday evening. Kiah Begley '13 (Berwick, ME/Saint Thomas Aquinas) registered 15 assists, six kills, five digs and four service aces for the Monks.

Alyssa Grigware '13 (Biddeford, ME) paced the Royal Blue with seven kills and added three aces, Holly Bannister '14 (Cumberland, ME) had five kills and four total blocks, and Erica Russi '14 (Debary, FL) chipped in with five kills and five digs in the 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-23) triumph.

Saint Joseph's belted 15 service aces in the victory, which ranks as the second-highest total this season. The Monks notched 19 aces in an SJC Autumn Invitational victory over Lyndon State on September 11th.

For the Beavers, Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, N.H.) scored a match-high eight kills for Farmington with Katie Allen (Bucksport, Maine) dished out 15 assists, collected a match-best six digs and three service aces.

With her third assist of the match, Begley became the second player in SJC Volleyball history to reach the 1,000-assist plateau. With 1,012 assists through 46 career matches, Begley joins Kerri Padgett '04, who dealt 1,509 helpers in 93 matches over four seasons, in the exclusive club.

Saint Joseph's will play at Regis College on Friday at 7:00 PM, while UMF is slated to play at Lyndon State in a conference tri-match against the Hornets and Johnson State on Saturday.
