STANDISH, ME - The Saint Joseph's College Volleyball team, 17-13 overall and 5-7 in GNAC play, has secured the #8 seed in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament.
St. Joe's will travel to Providence on Tuesday to take on top-seeded Johnson & Wales University (21-13, 11-1 GNAC) at 7:00 PM. For the Monks, the GNAC tourney appearance will be the first as a fourth-year member of the conference.
Earlier this season, the Wildats swept the Monks with 25-18, 25-18 and 25-18
GNAC RELEASE:
Johnson & Wales secured first place with a conference record of 11-1 and an overall record of 21-13. The Wildcats pulled ahead of Rivier during the last week of the regular season after a 3-1 victory over the Raiders. Johnson & Wales suffered their only loss of the season to the 2009 GNAC Champion, Emerson College.
Rivier earned their second place seeding with a conference record of 11-1 and an overall record of 21-10. The 2008 GNAC Champion Raiders had a huge home victory against #3 Emerson which lifted them to the second place seed.
Emerson earned a third place finish with a conference record of 10-2 and an overall record of 21-12. The Lions managed to defeat top ranked Johnson & Wales last Saturday, which added to the increased competitiveness of these top three teams.
Mount Ida earned their fourth place seeding with a conference record of 8-4 and an overall record of 21-7. Early in the season, the Mustangs were victorious over Emmanuel, which lifted them ahead of the Saints to claim the #4 seed and the home court advantage on Tuesday.
Rounding out the bottom four teams are #5 Emmanuel (8-4, 17-13), #6 Norwich (7-5, 20-10), #7 Lasell (6-6, 12-17), and #8 St. Joseph's (5-7, 17-13).
