Hawkes Claims Trio of Team Records

STANDISH, ME - Saint Josephs' junior middle blocker Sarah Hawkes (Pownal, Maine) has broken three of the Monks' most heralded individual career records this month.

Hawkes, a 2010 Third Team All-GNAC honoree, became the team's all-time kills leader with her fourth point in a 3-0 setback at the hands of Simmons College on October 1st. With the historic play she surpassed Hillary Collyer '04, who posted 673 kills in 57 matches (279 sets) over three seasons. As of October 24th, Hawkes has accumulated 742 kills in 82 matches (279 sets) and ranks fifth in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in kills per set (2.92) and seventh in hitting percentage (.284).

The three-year starter added another career record to her growing list of achievements when she tallied 11 digs in a 3-0 victory over Southern Maine on October 6th. Her 10th dig that evening pushed her past Helene Liaci '05, who recorded 718 digs in 87 matches (380 sets) over four seasons. Hawkes has registered 776 digs so far this fall and ranks fifth in the conference with 4.16 digs per set, just behind teammate Erica Russi '14 (Debary, Fla.), who ranks fourth with an average of 4.35 this year.

No other player in team history has registered 700 kills and 700 digs in their career at Saint Joseph's.

Hawkes completed the trifecta of career records with her second solo block in a hard-fought 3-2 loss to Norwich University on October 22nd. The junior took down another record formerly held by Collyer, who posted 123 solos during her three years at St. Joe's. Hawkes currently has 125 rejections and ranks seventh in the GNAC with 0.73 swats per set.

Hawkes' assault on the SJC volleyball record book has been impressive and is certain to continue. She already owns 14 program records, including three single-match marks (digs, hitting % and block assists), eight career records (kills, kills per set, hitting %, digs, solo blocks, block assists, total blocks and blocks per set), and three single-season bests (kills, hitting % and solo blocks) - all of which were claimed during her freshman season.

Saint Joseph's (17-9, 7-5 GNAC) has four regular-season matches remaining this season, beginning with a game at home versus Gordon College, which begins at 7:00 PM this evening. The Monks then travel to University of Southern Maine on Thursday (7:00 PM) and Framingham State on Friday (7:30 PM) before playing at Albertus Magnus College (4-20, 1-11 GNAC) in the team's final GNAC match of the year on Saturday (1:00 PM).
