Bannister & Huntley Earn GNAC Honors

STANDISH, ME – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph's College volleyball players have earned accolades.

Senior Holly Bannister (Cumberland, Maine) is the GNAC Defensive Player of the Week while freshman Victoria Huntley (Ellsworth, Maine) has been listed on the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll.

Bannister was a force to be reckoned with at the net in a GNAC tri-match sweep on Saturday. The senior middle hitter registered 15 total blocks in conference wins over Simmons College and Suffolk University, with seven total (6 solo) to help the Royal Blue blank the Sharks, 3-0, and eight (5 solo) in a 3-1 victory over the Rams.

Huntley played an integral role in a 3-1 week for the Monks. The freshman outside hitter, an all-around player, boasted 35 kills and 41 digs overall and recorded double-digit kill totals in three of the four matches. She posted a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs in a loss to University of New England on Monday evening and added another double-dip when she tallied 11 kills and 11 digs in a 3-0 win over Simmons College on Saturday. She closed out the week with 10 kills and eight digs to help St. Joe's clinch a 3-1 triumph over Suffolk University on Saturday.

Through 12 matches, Bannister has tallied 37 kills, 28 total blocks and 12 digs and is second on the team with a .156 attack percentage. Huntley ranks second on the squad in kills (73), third in attack percentage (.152) and fourth in digs (101). Both players have started all 12 matches for the Monks.

Saint Joseph's (10-2, 2-0 GNAC) will host Daniel Webster College in a non-conference match this evening at 7:00 PM.
