Wildcats Blank Monks, 3-0

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women's volleyball squad posted a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-18) win over Saint Joseph's College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Wildcat Center on Saturday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales controlled the action early in set one and had a 12-5 lead on a service ace by junior Kaitlin Kuntz (Boone, Iowa).  The Wildcats had a .270 hitting percentage in the first set en route to a 25-13 win and the 1-0 lead.

It was more of the same in the second set as the Wildcats held the 12-6 advantage after a hitting error by the Monks.  JWU then cruised to the 25-15 win and a 2-0 advantage.

The third set saw the teams battle back and forth early with JWU holding the 13-12 lead after an attacking error by Saint Joseph's.  JWU then used a 7-3 run, capped by a block by senior Megan Bollerman (Mahwah, N.J.) and junior Carey Kirk (Purcellville, Va.), for the 20-15 lead.  The Wildcats closed out the third set with a 25-18 win and a 3-0 victory for the match.

Senior Ashley Rey (Miami, Fla.), junior Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) and junior Lauren Cordts (Amherst, N.H.)each had eight kills in the win for JWU.  Senior Kasey Higgins (Wallingford, Conn.) and sophomore Kellen Tensen (New Canaan, Conn.) combined for 28 set assists for the Wildcats.  Drapeau and senior Giselle Cram (Vega Alto, Puerto Rico)each had 12 digs in the victory.

Sophomore Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) paced St. Joe's with eight kills and three blocks while freshman Mariah Hebert (Biddeford, Maine) tallied 16 set assists and seven digs in the setback for the Monks.
With the win JWU is now 14-19 on the season and 9-2 in the GNAC while Saint Joseph's drops to 19-11 for the year and 7-4 in league play.
