Thompson Selected as ECAC DIII New England Rookie of the Week

STANDISH, Maine - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Corvias ECAC Women's Volleyball Players of the Week for the reporting period ending September 13th and Saint Joseph's College freshman libero Jennelle Thompson (Farmington, N.H.) has been named as the ECAC DIII New England Rookie of the Week.

Thompson has played a major role in the Monks' 7-0 start to the season, which included three wins last week. The freshman libero totaled 58 digs for an average of 5.80 per set over the three matches, with 26 of those coming in a 3-0 win over conference-foe Suffolk on Saturday.

Thompson, who also collected GNAC Rookie of the Week honors on Monday, currently leads the team in digs (136) and digs per set (5.23) and has played in all 26 of the Monks' sets through seven matches this fall.

She is the first SJC volleyball player to garner ECAC Rookie of the Week acclaim and just the second to claim ECAC weekly honors overall. Teammate Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) has been selected as the ECAC DIII New England Player of the Week on two occasions.

Saint Joseph's will host the program's annual SJC Autumn Invitational Tournament this Friday and Saturday. With a two-court set up, the Monks will face Maine-Presque Isle (6:00 PM) and Husson (8:00 PM) on Friday night and take on Eastern Nazarene at 10:00 AM on Saturday. The championship and consolation matches will be played at 12:00 PM on Saturday.
