Volleyball Opens up Spring Play vs. University of Maine Fort Kent

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College faced off against UMaine-Fort Kent in a spring season women's volleyball match at the Harold Alfond Center on Wednesday evening. The Monks won the first set but ultimately suffered a hard-fought 3-1 loss at the hands of the Bengals.

Junior Sarah Quinn (Dover, N.H.) tallied 12 kills and eight digs while junior Olivia Kent (Ellington, Conn.) tacked on 10 kills, seven digs, and two service aces on the evening. Freshman Kailyn Chamberlain added 18 digs and a pair of aces, first-year Samantha Holland contributed with 18 digs, and sophomore Hanna Holden (Stoughton, Mass.) posted 10 assists and four digs.

"We've been really focused on passing this spring, so I was pleased with our overall team passing," said Head Coach Jon Roberts after the match. "We passed well enough to win but we haven't spent much time on offense and blocking and it showed up in the game. I thought the freshmen all played well while facing college competition for the first time."

The Monks will host Colby College next Wednesday at 7:00 PM. Spectators are not allowed, but the match will be streamed live on www.gomonks.tv.
