Sylvester & Briones Earn GNAC Postseason Accolades

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's volleyball postseason honors have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph's College players have earned accolades.

Sophomore Maggie Sylvester (Barrington, N.H.) has garnered Third Team All-GNAC honors and freshman Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) is listed on the GNAC All-Rookie Team.

Sylvester earns the first All-Conference honor of her college career after posting 198 kills in 592 attempts for a .145 attack rate with 215 digs and 20 total blocks in 24 matches (89 sets) during her sophomore season. The second year outside hitter belted double-digit kills in 10 different matches and – despite missing the last five matches of the year due to an injury – tied for the team lead in kills and ranked third in digs.

Sylvester is the first SJC volleyball player to garner All-GNAC honors since 2018 when former standout defensive specialist Jennelle Thompson '19 was named Second Team All-Conference.

Briones takes home GNAC All-Rookie Team accolades after registering one of the finest rookie seasons in the program's recent history. The versatile freshman tied for the team lead with 198 kills, led the squad in digs (367) and digs per set (3.22), and ranked second on the team in service aces (42).

Under the guidance of fifth-year Head Coach Jon Roberts, Saint Joseph's posted a 13-18 record overall – the most wins in a season since 2017 - with a 7-6 tally in GNAC play en route to earning the #8 seed in the conference tournament. The Monks' campaign came to a close with a 3-0 loss at the hands of top-seeded Rivier University on November 1st.
