Monks Open GNAC Play with Convincing Sweep

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (5-5, 2-0 GNAC) posted a pair of 3-0 victories over Norwich University (2-5, 1-1 GNAC) and Anna Maria College (1-7, 0-2 GNAC) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's volleyball tri-match on Mike McDevitt Court at the Harold Alfond Center on Friday. Norwich tipped Anna Maria by a 3-2 score in the middle match.

SAINT JOSEPH'S def. NORWICH, 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 26-24):

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in kills (46-27), attack percentage (.321 / .127), assists (41-24), aces (10-6), digs (57-41), and blocks (6-3).

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Junior Maggie Sylvester (Barrington, N.H.) belted 13 kills with eight digs and a .400 attack percentage
  • Sophomore Nadia Sixto (Chattanooga, Tenn.) posted nine kills with a .389 attack rate, three digs, and three total blocks
  • Sophomore Victoria Briones (El Paso, Texas) tallied nine kills, 11 digs, two aces, and two assists
  • Freshman Larisa Comolli (Nashua, N.H.) chipped in with eight kills and a pair of digs
  • Senior Kailyn Chamberlin (Milford, N.H.) dealt 27 assists with a pair of aces and four digs
  • Senior Sam Holland (Gilmanton, N.H.) tacked on 18 digs and four service aces

LEADERS – NORWICH:

  • Senior Sam Lebruska (Lynnfield, Mass.) posted a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs
  • Senior Leah Mathewson (North Chelmsford, Mass.) added six kills on 23 attempts
  • Freshman Gina Caraccio (Churchville, Pa.) delivered 22 assists and five digs
  • Sophomore Autumn Parkhurst (Parish, N.Y.) contributed 13 digs and a pair of aces

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in kills (37-15), attack percentage (.264 / -.034), assists (26-12), aces (9-1), digs (51-32), and total blocks (4-0).

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Sixto delivered 10 kills and five service aces with four digs and a .471 attack percentage
  • Briones registered a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs and boasted a .318 attack rate
  • Webster added five kills and a pair of block solos
  • Holland tallied 21 digs
  • Chamberlin added three kills and 11 assists with three digs
  • Senior Caitlin Quinn (Dover, N.H.) chipped in with seven assists and three digs

LEADERS – ANNA MARIA:

  • Senior Sarah Burt (Plymouth, Mass.) posted four kills with seven assists and six digs
  • Senior Ashley Sheehan (Medford, Mass.) notched three kills on 11 attempts
  • Senior Serena Dennis (Holyoke, Mass.) added seven digs, two assists, and a service ace

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

The Monks are now 7-11 in the history of the series with Norwich University and 12-2 all-time versus Anna Maria College. Saint Joseph's has defeated the AMCATS in six-consecutive meetings.

Saint Joseph's is back in action on Tuesday with a non-conference match at Plymouth State University. Opening service is slated for 6:00 PM.
