St. Joe’s Takes Second in Runnin’ Monks Invitational

STANDISH, ME - Lyndon State College of Vermont arrived late due to bus troubles, but it didn't seem to affect their women's squad who finished with 21 points and first place in the Runnin' Monks XC Invitational on Saturday.

The Hornets placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 8th, but the real story of the race was St. Joe's sophomore co-captain Sarah Willis, who finished in 1st place. Willis pulled away from the pack midway through the 5k race and finished in a convincing 20:59, 17 seconds ahead of 2nd place runner Betsy Markinson.

Also running well for St. Joe's and helping the team to a second place finish was co-captain Aubrey Gray (9th) and Jasmine Smith (10th).

Next in was a pack of three Monks, Suzanne Connelly (16th), Michelle Sanborn (17th), and Jess Desrosiers (18th).

"Sarah is starting to run with the confidence and determination she is capable of," said Coach Dann.
