Women Place 7th in State Meet

BRUNSWICK, ME – The Saint Joseph's College Women's Cross Country team placed seventh with 206 points in the 32nd Annual State of Maine Championship 5K at the Mount Ararat High School course on Saturday. Danielle Cusack '13 (Portland, ME/Deering) finished as the top SJC runner with a 21:12 effort and placed 44th out of 134 participants.

With four of the top six runners and 23 points, Colby College earned team honors for the sixth time in the last seven years and the 11th time in the history of the meet. The team point tally is the lowest since the Mules captured the 2006 crown with 21 points.

Colby sophomore Amy Tortorello captured individual honors after touring the course in 18:52, while fellow Mules second-year Berol Dewdeny finished close behind with a 19:00 performance. Bowdoin freshman Carolyn Baskir placed third at 19:01.

As far as team scores, Bowdoin placed second with 36 points, Bates was third with 79 and USM placed fourth with 126 points. UNE (151), Maine-Farmington (165), St. Joe's (206), Maine-Presque Isle (252) and Unity (278) rounded out the field.

Katie Murphy '11 (Baileyville, ME) was the second Monks runner to cross the line and placed 66th with a 21:59 effort. Christina Meehan '11 (Nashua, NH) placed 79th (22:44) and Ashley Condon '13 (Sumner, ME) earned an 87th place finish (23:17), while Allison Pearsall '12 (West Newbury, MA) (97th, 23:57), Laura Mills '13 (Mattapoisett, MA) (103rd, 24:18), Kelsey Caramihalis '14 (York, ME) (25:26), Serena Foley '11 (Swampscott, MA) (113th, 25:41) and Lauren Tidd '13 (Walpole, NH) (118th, 26:18) also competed in the event.

Saint Joseph's will host the GNAC Championship Meet on Saturday, October 30th. Start times TBD.
