Dostie & Eaton Claim Runner, Rookie of the Week Honors

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's sophomore Amber Dostie (Standish, Maine) and freshman Heather Eaton (Lincolnville, Maine) have garnered GNAC weekly honors.

Dostie has been chosen as the GNAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time this fall while Eaton is the GNAC Rookie of the Week for the reporting period ending September 23rd.

Dostie won her second race in as many appearances with an 18:33 time in the 2012 Raiders Invitational 5K on Friday afternoon. The individual effort helped Saint Joseph's placed third out of nine participating programs with 91 team points and shatters the SJC women's cross country 5K record by over 30 seconds.

For Dostie, the 2011 GNAC Rookie and Runner of the Year, last week's victory was the fifth of her young career. She now has eight weekly conference honors to her credit – five runner of the week accolades and three top rookie selections - over one-plus collegiate campaigns.

Eaton placed 16th out of 101 participants with a 20:01 effort in the Raiders Invitational on Friday and has improved her 5K time by at least 45 seconds in each race since posting a 22:48 performance in the Monks' 2012 opener, a duel meet with UNE, on September 1st.

Dostie is the only runner in team history to record a sub-19-minute performance and her effort at Rivier topped the previous program best, held by Kristin Lindholm who ran a 19:05 at Gordon College during the 1992 campaign, by 32 seconds. The Raiders Invitational was filled with NCAA DII participants and Dostie, who won the race by nine seconds, was the only DIII runner to finish in the top 13 overall.

Saint Joseph's will compete at the Keene State College Invitational on Saturday at 11:00 AM.
