Women Fall to UNE in Opener, 17-55

STANDISH, ME – University of New England posted six of the top seven runners en route to recording a 17-55 victory over Saint Joseph's College in season-opening women's cross country action on Saturday.

Nor'easters freshman Brittney Sorbello (Dover, N.H.) won the 5K event with a 21:08 effort while fellow first-year Tiana Thomas (Waterville, Maine) placed as the runner-up with a 21:31 time and junior Natalie Hardman (Kalona, Iowa) finished third with a 21:45 performance. Senior Colleen Ahern (Salem, Conn.) (22:00), junior Michelle Reidy (Isleboro, Maine) (22:09) and junior Erynn Edwards (Fenton, Mich.) (22:12) placed fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.

For Saint Joseph's, junior Heather Eaton (Lincolnville, Maine) recorded a fourth-place finish with a 21:50 effort and sophomore Lauren Rabideau (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) placed eighth with a 22:18 time. Junior Marie Harrington (Limerick, Maine) was 19th (25:26), sophomore Riley Jones (Winslow, Maine) finished 23rd (26:21), freshman Mikaela Rowell (Derry, N.H.) was 26th (27:03) and junior Victoria Ramos (North Scituate, R.I.) placed 27th (27:07).

Junior Melissa Deplanche (Dover, N.H.) (30th, 28:49), freshman Cynthia Andrews (Seal Harbor, Maine) (31st, 28:54), freshman Kristina Schelling (Pelham, N.H.) (32nd, 29:04), freshman Gabrielle Lodge (Westbrook, Maine) (34th, 29:10) and senior Sarah Bakun (Clinton, Mass.) (35th, 33:01) also participated in the season opener for Saint Joseph's.

Saint Joseph's will race on Saturday, September 14th when the team runs in the UNE Invitational at Rotary Park in Biddeford, Maine at 10:45 AM.
