Women Place Eighth at UNE Invitational

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College women's cross country team placed eighth with 266 points in the University of New England Invitational at Rotary Park on Saturday. Heather Eaton (Lincolnville, Maine) placed third out of 151 participants with a 19:57 performance in the 5K event.

For the Monks, junior Kristina Schelling (Pelham, N.H.) was 97th with a 26:09 time, junior Marisa Lundy (Merrimac, Mass.) placed 104th (26.27), junior Jill Keimach (Scarborough, Maine) was 114th (27.30), junior Megan McLaughlin (Kingston, N.H.) finished 137th (31.26) and junior Meghan Fullarton (Windham, Maine) raced to a 147th (35.27) place finish.

With five of the top six finishers overall, the Nor'easters registered 18 points to win their annually hosted event for the fourth-consecutive season. With an 18:59 effort, junior Brittany Sorbello (Dover, N.H.) won her home meet for the third-consecutive season while classmate Tiana Thomas (Waterville, Maine) finished as the runner-up with a 19:20 time.

Endicott College placed second with 81 points, Gordon College was third with 85 points, Worcester State University finished fourth (86) and Wheelock College rounded out the top five with 150 points.

Saint Joseph's returns to action on Saturday, September 26th at the Bowdoin Invitational in Brunswick.

  • For Eaton, the 19:57 time was both the third sub-20 effort and third-best of her career – she placed 10th with a 20:08 performance in the 2014 UNE Invitational
