Men Participate in 2015 State of Maine Championship

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's cross country team placed 11th with 301 points in the State of Maine Championship, hosted by Bowdoin College, on Saturday.

Sophomore Lucas Fisher (Strafford, N.H.) paced the Monks with a 28:00 time and finished 62nd out of 177 participants. Senior Taidghe Hagan (Reading, Mass.) finished 92nd with a 29:13 performance, freshman Andrew Force (Lancaster, N.H.) was 121st (30:32) and senior Andrew Caron (Gardiner, Maine) placed 124th (30:45). Junior Nick Shuckrow (Winslow, Maine) was 142nd (32:06), freshman Avery Liotta-Henderson (Waterbury, Conn.) finished 149th (32:53), and senior Connor Dufour (Augusta, Maine) raced to a 151st place finish (32:57).

With all five scorers in the top seven overall, Bates College captured the team title with 24 points, well ahead of runner-up Colby College, which tallied 45 points in the annual 8K race. For the Bobcats, the state title is the program's fourth in the last five years.

Bowdoin College finished third (55), Southern Maine was fourth (132) and University of New England rounded out the top five programs with 150 points. Maine-Farmington (187 points), Maine-Presque Isle (213), Maine Maritime (241), Husson University (276) and Thomas College (285) also participated in the 2015 State Championship.

Individually, Colby junior Silas Eastman was the first to cross the finish line with a 25:10 time, nine seconds ahead of runner-up Allen Sumrall of Bates. Bowdoin's Bridger Tomlin placed third (25:27) while a pair of Bates runners – Joe Doyle and Gregg Heller – finished fourth (25:30) and fifth (25:31), respectively.

Saint Joseph's is off until October 31st, when the Monks host the 2015 GNAC Championship on the SJC Campus.
