Saint Joseph's Cross Country Competes at Charger Invitational

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Saint Joseph's College Men's and Women's Cross Country teams opened the 2023 season competing in the 5th Annual Charger Invitational 5K at Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday.

The men posted 33 points edging conference competitor, Colby-Sawyer, who followed behind with 38 points.  Sophomore Jacob Pelletier for the Monks led the way with an impressive 21-second lead from the rest of the pack to help the Men's cross-country program get their first team win since the 2018 Green Mountain Invitational.

The women posted 102 points to finish fourth overall led by sophomore Alexia Young who made her rookie debut in this 5K effort.  

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

The Monks placed three runners in the top five as Jacob Pelletier (Agusta, Maine) finished first (16:06) setting a new course record, Alexey Seredin (Peaks Island, Maine) was second (17:00), and Ryan Graham (Hopkinton, N.H.) placed fourth en route to edging Colby-Sawyer by 5 points for first in the team standings.

Lasell College placed third with 77 points followed by Regis College for fourth with 84 points.

FOR THE MONKS:

  • Senior Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.) finished 12th (18:33)
  • Junior Ethan Shaw (Scarborough, Maine) was 17th (19:37)
  • Freshman Michael Morin (Merrimack, N.H.) placed 21st (20:59)
  • Freshman Jacob Schmader (Limington, Maine) was 22nd (21:12)
  • Freshman Emislon Zocolo (Lewiston, Maine) finished 23rd (21:14)
  • Junior Jobet Tardiff (Windham, Maine) placed 25th (21:56)
  • Freshman Colin Brown (Hardwick, Mass.) was 32nd (24:30)
  • Freshman Christopher Godefroy (Windsor Locks, Conn.) rounded it out for the Monks with a 33rd finish (24:40)

 THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

Colby- Sawyer placed three runners in the top five to win the meet with a total of 20 points with Regis College following in for second posting 58 points.

Lasell finished third with 68 points, the Monks came in behind for fourth with 102 points, and New England College closed out the field with 110 points for fifth.

 

Junior Samantha Carus of Colby-Sawyer won the event individually with a time of 20:32.5 edging her fellow teammate Tessa Millette for second (20:32.9)

  • Sophomore Alexia Young (Rochester, N.H.) placed 16th (25:44)
  • Freshman Ava Moffett (Livermore Falls, Maine) was 17th (25:55)
  • Junior Terry Cassetta (Sandy Hook, Conn.) finished 19th (26:08)
  • Freshman Breya Whitman (Auburn, Maine) was 25th (27:52)
  • Junior Lindy Hyndman (Auburn, Maine) placed 28th (30:15)
  • Freshman Haley Lang (New Gloucester, Maine) finished 31st (33:05)
  • Sophomore Alexia Smith (Scarborough, Maine) finished 32nd (35:24)

The Monks are off to Rotary Park in Biddeford, Maine for the UNE Invitational on September 9th, 2023.
