Monks Post Pair of Runner-up Finishes

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College cross country teams posted a pair of runner-up finishes in the Ron Ouellete Invitational, hosted by University of New England, on Saturday. The women notched 10 points while the men posted 57 points in the 5K and 8K races, respectively.

UNE won both races by wide margin, as the host Nor'easters placed the top seven runners in the women's event en route to posting the lowest possible score – 15 points – and had eight of the top 10 competitors with 20 points in the men's race.

UNE senior Jasmine Syed won the women's race with a 19:57 time, over a full minute ahead of runner-up Kelsee Gladu, who placed second for the Nor'easters with a 20:59 performance.

On the men's side, UNE senior Anthony Chase claimed the individual crown with a 27:14 effort, 73 seconds faster than runner-up Jacob Huberdeau (Atkinson, N.H.), who placed as the runner-up with a 28:27 performance.

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

  • Junior Kelsey Kennedy (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) paced the Monks with a 22:22 time and placed eighth overall
  • Senior Emma Allen (Jefferson, Maine) finished 10 with a 22:24 effort
  • Senior Julia Heroux (Albion, R.I.) was 11th with a 22:45 performance
  • Senior Carly Jordan (Turner, Maine) placed 13th (23:25)
  • Junior Caitlyn Kendrick (Richmond, Maine) finished 16th (23:56)
  • Senior Samantha VanDeMoere (Thornton, N.H.) was 18th (24:20)
  • Freshman Terry Cassetta (Sandy Hook, Conn.) placed 24th (26:32)

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

  • Huberdeau led the Royal Blue with a 28:27 time and finished as the runner-up
  • Senior Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) placed fifth with a 29:51 effort
  • Sophomore Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.) was 14th (31:32)
  • Freshman Ethan Shaw (Scarborough, Maine) placed 19th (31:59)
  • Junior Devin Abbott (Berwick, Maine) was 26th (35:44)
  • Senior Cameron Rice (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) finished 28th (36:13)
  • Senior Shawn Breen (Ashland, N.H.) was 36th (46:24)

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's is off until Friday, October 1st when the team competes in the 2021 Maine State Championship at Pineland Farms in Gloucester, Maine).
