STANDISH, ME - The Great Northeast Athletic
Conference has announced its weekly awards and two Saint Joseph's
swimmers, Lindsay D'Ascanio ‘11 (Kennebunk,
ME) and Hannah Gajewski ‘12
(Biddeford, ME/McAuley) have been honored.
D'Ascanio gets the nod for GNAC Swimmer of the
Week honors after helping lead St. Joe's to a record-setting 184-50
win over Regis College on Sunday, November 23rd. The Royal Blue set
records for most points and largest margin of victory in the meet.
D'Ascanio achieved top finishes in the 100-fly and 100-IM events
and broke the school record in the 100-IM with a 1:09.29 effort.
She also swam a leg for the winning 200-medley and 200-free relay
teams. The sophomore standout received 2008 GNAC Swimming Rookie of
the Year honors and was named as the conference Rookie of the Week
five times last season. She has won all eight of her individual
events so far this year.
For Gajewski, the weekly rookie honor is the third
of her freshman campaign. Against Regis College on Sunday, she
gained first-place finishes in the 50-back (32.84) and the 500-free
(5:40.35), with the latter breaking the former SJC record by nearly
six seconds. She also swam legs for the winning 200-medley and
200-free relay teams. The freshman has captured five team records
in just four collegiate meets and has won nine of ten of her
individual events for Head Coach Rick Horr, who has helped guide
the women's team to a 3-0 record this season.
Saint Joseph's will compete in the GNAC Championships on Saturday,
December 6th at Simmons College. The meet begins at 10:00 AM.
