STANDISH, ME - The Saint Joseph's women's swim team improved to
7-1 with a 170-84 win over Husson University (1-5) on Saturday
afternoon in the first swim meet ever held in the Harold Alfond

(Kennebunk, ME) and Hannah
Gajewski '12 (Biddeford, ME/McAuley) earned three
individual victories apiece in the historic event.
D'Ascanio won the 50-Back (32.12), 100-Back
(1:09.29) and 50-Fly (30.88) events and was a member of the winning
200-Medley (2:09.23) relay team. The sophomore's time in the
50-Back competition broke the former mark (32.81) which was set by
teammate Katie Brooks ‘11
(North Kingstown, RI) last season at Regis College (11/18/07).
D'Ascanio now holds six individual time records at
Saint Joseph's.
Gajewski earned first-place finishes in the 200-IM
(2:24.89), 100-Breast (1:17.07) and 100-IM events and swam a leg
for the winning 200-Free (1:57.17) relay squad. The freshman bested
her own record in the 200-IM, which she originally set in the
Colby-Sawyer meet on October 25th, and currently owns nine program
records.
Tri-captain Ashton Piers
‘09 (Falmouth, ME/Deering) swam a leg for both winning relay
teams, earned a victory in the 100-Fly (1:08.95) along with a
runner-up finish in the 100-IM (1:09.66) in the event.
Rose Marie
Maccarrone ‘12 (Hingham, MA) also swam legs
in both relay wins and posted a win in the 50-Breast (37.88) and a
second-place finish in the 100-Breast (1:23.19), while first-year
swimmers Amanda Lanoix ‘12
(Lyman, ME) and Jamie Wojtkiewicz
‘12 (Bedford, NH) both captured individual victories as well
as relay wins. Lanoix won the 100-Free (1:00.42)
and swam a leg of the 200-Medley relay, while
Wojtkiewicz placed first in the 50-Free (28.97)
and was a member of the winning 200-Free relay team.

(Hopkinton, NH) (50-Back, 33.23) all captured second-place finishes
in the meet, as did tri-captains Danielle
Harmon ‘10 (Poland, ME) (50-Fly, 32.31) and
Lindsay Bates ‘10
(Waterville, ME) (500-Free, 6:44.84). Katie
Brooks gained runner-up finishes in the 200-IM
(2:35.95) and 100-Back (1:10.48) events and placed third in the
50-Free (31.03).
Though swimming in exhibition in an attempt to gain New England
qualifying times, the men managed to scratch three program records
in the meet. Kieran O'Connell ‘12
(Gloucester, MA) set new marks in the 100-Free (58.26) and 200-Free
(2:10.75) events and Kevin Towne
‘12 (Shrewsbury, MA) posted a 25.60 time in the 50-Free to
set a new program record.
The women will next compete in the New England Championship, which
is hosted by U-Mass Dartmouth on February 20-22. The men will take
to the pool in the Men's New England Championship, hosted by Roger
Williams (RI) February 27-March 1.
