2011 NEISDA Championships Update

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT – The Saint Joseph's College women's swim team is in 20th place with 71 team points through two days, and 34 events, at the 2011 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving (NEISDA) Championships.

The SJC women have advanced to the finals in seven events – four relay and three individual competitions – heading into the third and final day of the regional event.

The team has broken a pair of team records as well. Rose Maccarrone '12 (Hingham, MA) broke the 50-Breast record with a 35.97 effort in the preliminary round and placed 24th in the finals with a 36.38 effort. Maccarrone bested the previous record, set by current Assistant Coach Ashton Piers '10, by ten one-hundredths of a second.

Hannah Gajewski '12 (Biddeford, ME/McAuley) topped her own team mark in the 200-IM with a 2:22.56 performance in the prelims and placed 14th of 24 participants in the finals with a 2:23.76 time. Gajewski broke her previous time, set last year at the NEISDA meet, by 22 one-hundredths of a second.

Jamie Wojtkiewicz '12 (Bedford, NH) also advanced to the finals in the 400-IM where she placed 24th with a 5:23.69 effort.

The Monks' 800-Free relay squad, featuring Maccarrone, Christine Cote '13 (Biddeford, ME), Gajewski and Wojtkiewicz, placed 16th with an 8:51.83 time. The SJC 400-Medley relay team, featuring Anne Roberts '12 (Hopkinton, NH), Maccarrone, Gajewski and Wojtkiewicz, finished 18th with a 4:43.05 effort.

Bentley leads the pool of 21 participating institutions with 1002 points, well ahead of current runner-up Keene State, which has 808.5 points.
