Women's Swimming Finishes 20th in NEISDA Championship

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT – The SJC women's swim team finished the 2011 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships in 20th place with a team-record 106 points.

The Monks capped the three-day meet with a pair of finals appearances and advanced to the final round in nine events on the weekend. The Monks' previous team record, set in the 2009 NEISDA Championship, was 99 points.

Junior Hannah Gajewski (Biddeford, ME/McAuley) placed 14th in the 100-IM with a 1:07.70 effort on Sunday. The individual finals appearance was her second of the weekend as she notched a 14th-place finish in the 200-IM on Friday. Her 2:25.56 performance in the 200-IM prelims topped a team record.

Rose Maccarrone '12 (Hingham, MA) also advanced to the final round in the 100-IM and finished 21st with a 1:09.08 effort. Maccarrone broke the team mark in the 50-Breast on Friday with a 35.97 time in the preliminary round.

The SJC 400-Free relay team, featuring Christine Cote '13 (Biddeford, ME), Maccarrone, Jamie Wojtkiewicz '12 (Bedford, NH) and Gajewski, finished 17th with a 4:03.51 performance.

Bentley University captured the team title with 1467 points, besting runner-up Keene State College by a mere 24.5 points. Keene had won three consecutive NEISDA Championships heading into this year's event.
