Women's Swimming Falls to Elms College, 132-106

CHICOPEE, MA – Elms College defeated Saint Joseph's, 132-106, in women's swimming action on Saturday afternoon. Hannah Gajewski '12 (Biddeford, Maine/McAuley) and Mandy Avella '15 (Londonderry, N.H.) both registered a pair of individual wins and a runner-up performance in the losing effort.

Gajewski notched victories in the 400-Free (5:06.95) and 100-IM (1:16.74) competitions with a second place time in the 200-Free (2:25.55). Avella won the 50-Back (34.83) and 50-Fly (34.37) events and finished second in the 200-Back (2:46.15) race. Both swimmers swam legs for the Monks' 200-Medley relay team, which placed second with a 2:21.56 effort.

Jamie Wojtkiewicz '12 (Bedford, N.H.) posted a top finish in the 800-Free (11:09.92) while teammates Rose Maccarrone '12 (Hingham, Mass.) and Christine Cote '13 (Biddeford, Maine) recorded runner-up efforts in the 100-IM (1:20.16) and 50-Fly (35.71) events, respectively.

Wojtkiewicz, Anne Roberts '12 (Hopkinton, N.H.), Maccarrone and Kiani Camire '13 (Lewiston, Maine) swam legs for the SJC 200-Free relay team, which closed out the meet with a victory after posting a 2:13.23 time.

The Elms pool is 25 meters long, rather than the usual 25 yards, so some of the times may seem a bit skewed. Several of the Monks' meters records were broken on Saturday:

400 Free – Hannah Gajewski 5:06.95
200 Free – Hannah Gajewski 2:25.55
200 Back – Mandy Avella 2:46.87
50 Back – Mandy Avella 34.83
50 Breast – Rosie Maccarrone 40.97
50 Fly – Mandy Avella 34.37

Saint Joseph's will host Regis College this coming Saturday at 2:00 PM.
