Nor'easters Top Monks, 144-90

STANDISH, ME – The SJC women's swim team suffered a 144-90 defeat at the hands of University of New England at the Alfond Center Pool on Monday afternoon.

Mandy Avella '15 (Londonderry, N.H.) and Hannah Gajewski '12 (Biddeford, Maine/McAuley) both notched top finishes on the day as Avella won the 50-Free with a 27.64 effort and Gajewski lapped the field in the 500-Free (5:51.21).

Avella added a runner-up effort in the 100-Back (1:08.64) and Gajewski posted a second-place performance in the 100-Breast (1:17.90) and a third-place time in the 200-Back (2:27.64).

Christine Cote '13 (Biddeford, Maine) placed second in the 200-Free (2:18.06) and third in the 100-Free (1:02.76) while Jamie Wojtkiewicz '12 (Bedford, N.H.) notched third-place efforts in the 200-Breast (2:55.16) and 400-IM (5:24.62) events.

Saint Joseph's will host Simmons College at 1:00 PM on Saturday. The Monks will pay tribute to the program's four seniors, Gajewski, Wojtkiewicz, Rose Maccarrone (Hingham, Mass.), and Anne Roberts (Hopkinton, N.H.) with a brief ceremony prior to the event.
