Women's Swimming Suffers Setback at Gordon College

WENHAM, MA – Gordon College defeated Saint Joseph's, 118.5-109.5, in a women's swim meet on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Mandy Avella (Londonderry, N.H.) earned top finishes in the 50-Breast (34.79, a new program record) and 100-IM (1:09.27) events and notched a runner-up time in the 50-Fly (31.05) in the loss.

Hannah Gajewski '12 (Biddeford, Maine/McAuley) finished first in the 500-Free (5:50.54) and was the runner-up in the 100-Fly (1:07.43) and Christine Cote '13 (Biddeford, Maine) registered a top finish in the 50-Free (28.43) and a runner-up effort in the 100-Free (1:01.54).

Anne Roberts '12 (Hopkinton, N.H.) won the 200-Back (2:32.60) and placed second in the 50-Back (34.02), Kiani Camire recorded a runner-up effort in the 50-Free (29.24), and Jamie Wojtkiewicz '12 (Bedford, N.H.) placed second in the 500-Free (6:02.04) and 200-Free (2:12.75) events.

Rose Maccarrone '12 (Hingham, Mass.) also performed well with a runner-up time in the 100-Breast (1:21.99) and third-place finishes in the 50-Breast (36.88) and 50-Fly (32.60) competitions.

Saint Joseph's is off until the 2012 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championship, a three-day event that begins on February 17th in White River Junction, Vermont.
