Swim Teams Claim Scholar All-America Honor

STANDISH, ME - The Saint Joseph College men's and women's swim teams have earned College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team honors for the second consecutive semester.

In all, 124 women's programs and 79 men's teams from across the nation garnered the academic honor, which is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is bestowed upon teams achieving this high standard in the fall semester and during the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).

St. Joe's is one of just three New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) members (Elms College and Keene State College are the others) to have both the men's and women's programs honored with the CSCAA high academic honor. Overall, 13 NEISDA women's teams and three NEISDA men's teams received mention.

In addition, Saint Joseph's joins Simmons College, Regis College, and Elms College as one of four Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's teams to collect the academic accolade. Only three other Maine institutions - Bates College, Colby College, and University of New England - claimed honors for the 2012 spring semester.

Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, Inc. (CSCAA), is the oldest coaches association in the United States of America. Presently, the CSCAA boasts more than 2,000 member coaches and assistant coaches, recognizes All-American swimmers, NCAA record-breakers and Academic All-American swimmers and teams as well as outstanding coaches and contributors, and helps oversee the welfare of collegiate swimming.
