GNAC Championship: Day 1 Recap

BOSTON, MA - The 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship and Men's Invitational are underway.

The Simmons Sharks lead the Women's field with 164 points, followed by Regis College with 99.5, Elms College with 73, Saint Joseph's College with 43.5, Husson University with 29, University of Saint Joseph with 26, and Norwich University posting 22 points to round out the teams through the first day of competition.

It was a fast day of competition, with several GNAC and pool records broken. Below is a list of new women's GNAC and pool records swum today:

 

200 Freestyle Relay: Simmons College, 1:43.26
200 IM: Jen Collins, Simmons College, 2:17.82
50 Freestyle: Brenna Melanson, Regis College, 25.20
100 Butterfly: Svetlana Loranger, Regis College, 1:03.01
200 Freestyle: Jen Collins, Simmons College, 2:00.66
100 Breaststroke: Haley Bowen, Regis College, 1:10.85
50 Butterfly: Svetlana Loranger, Regis College, 28.49

 

The 2012 GNAC Championship and Men's Invitational will continue tomorrow morning with the first event set to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Holmes Sports Center at Simmons College. Sunday's finals will begin at 5:00 p.m.
