STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College swim team hosted Husson University, Gordon College, and Elms College in a quad meet at the Harold Alfond Center Pool on Saturday afternoon. The SJC women defeated Elms (67-0) and fell to Husson (128-29) and Gordon (67-47) while the Monks' men posted wins over Gordon (103-81) and Elms (120-25) and suffered a 119-68 loss to Husson.
SENIOR MOMENT:
Prior to the start of the meet the SJC swimming program held a brief ceremony to honor the team's lone senior: Anna Walker (Scarborough, Maine). A first-year member of the swim team, Walker has been a welcome addition to the squad this winter and gives the Monks another accomplished swimmer in the pool.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
- Sophomore Kiley Matthews (South Portland, Maine) won the 200-Free (2:10.30) and 50-Fly (31.17)
- Junior Brooke Podsiadlo (Granby, Mass.) placed second in the 1650-Free (20:57.30) and 100-Free (1:02.40) events and third in the 500-Free (6:13.84)
- Sophomore Tiffany Twombly (Sanford, Maine) won the 200-Breast (2:47.50) and finished second in the 200-IM (2:29.44)
- Freshman Elise Soucy (Saco, Maine) placed fourth in the 200-Free (2:23.50) and 100-Back (1:11.72)
- Senior Anna Walker (Scarborough, Maine) was fourth in the 50-Free (29.33)
- Walker, Ashley Thompson (Granby, Conn.), Emma Westgate (Sanford, Maine), and Samantha O'Rourke (Gilford, N.H.) placed third in the 200-Medley relay (2:27.95)
- Thompson, Soucy, Twombly, and Matthews raced to a runner-up finish in the 400-Free relay (4:32.07)
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
- Freshman Lucas Fendl (Ellsworth, Maine) finished second in the 50-Free (24.87) and 50-Fly (26.57) events and was third in the 100-Free (58.73)
- Sophomore Zachery Creekmore (New Fairfield, Conn.) was second in the 200-Breast (3:04.99) and fourth in the 100-Free (1:09.49)
- Junior Shawn Perry (Plaistow, N.H.) placed fourth in the 100-Back (1:07.63) and fifth in the 200-Free (2:09.48) and 200-IM (2:28.33) races
