Fiander, a native of the Washington DC area and a 2007 graduate of Maine College of Art's Master of Fine Arts program, also works in the field of photography and video. Prior to moving to Portland, Fiander was the assistant swim coach of her former team at Bishop O'Connell High School in Arlington, Virginia. She comes from a strict swimming background and has also swam for the Lake Barcroft Dolphins, Sleepy Hollow Recreation Association and U.S.S. team, York Swim Club.

Overall, Fiander has a true passion for swimming, sportsmanship and teamwork.
