Golf Finishes 10th in Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, ME – The Saint Joseph's golf team placed 10th with a 701 team card in the 2012 Bowdoin College Invitational at the Brunswick Golf Club over the weekend. Junior Kevin Richardson (Coventry, Conn.) paced the Monks with a 156 (79-77) and finished in a tie for 10th overall.

Williams College claimed the team title with a two-day 606 score and boasted two of the top three finishers in medalist Ross Bowen (75-72-147) and Jake Abrahams (75-75-150), who finished in a tie for second place with Husson's Lance Bernier (75-75-150).

Williams bested runner-up Husson (620) by 14 strokes as Saint Anselm (624) placed third while Endicott (636) and University of Southern Maine (638) rounded out the top five competing institutions. Bowdoin (646), Tufts (659), Maine-Farmington (665) and Bates (665) also participated in the event.

For St. Joe's, freshman Ryan Berard (Millville, Mass.) carded a 172 (85-87), junior Colin Finn (North Easton, Mass.) shot a 195 (88-107) and sophomore David Kapelson (Litchfield, N.H.) tallied a 197 (96-101). Senior Sean Drake (Lebanon, N.H.) posted the third-lowest score of the tournament with a 77 in the first round on Saturday, but disqualified on the second day after failing to finish the 16th hole.

Richardson's 156 score ties his 36-hole career-best, a card he first posted in the 2011 GNAC Championship at the Gorham Country Club.

Saint Joseph's returns to the links on Thursday with an appearance in the Maine-Farmington Invitational at the Sunday River Golf Club. Tee-time is slated for 10:00 AM.
