Monks Finish 11th at Southern Maine Fall Classic

GORHAM, ME – Saint Joseph's College placed 11th with a 646 (329-317) score in the two-day USM Fall Classic at Gorham Country Club, which wrapped up on Monday afternoon. Monks junior Kevin Richardson (Coventry, Conn.) led the Royal Blue with a 151 (76-75) card and finished in a tie for 14th individually.

Husson junior Bill Hutchins (Hampden, Maine) earned individual medalist honors with a two-round total of 142 (69-73) to lead the Husson University Eagles to a first place finish. Hutchins shot a two-under par opening round 69 and followed it with a solid 73 to lead the field of 55 golfers as Husson totaled a score of 586 (293-293).

Four teams finished under 600 strokes in the closely-contested tournament.  Endicott College edged out Southern Maine with a score of 593 (296-297) for second place while the Huskies placed third with a 595 (294-301).  UMass Dartmouth was the fourth team with a sub-600 card, placing fourth with a 599 (301-298) collective score.

University of New England (612), Bowdoin (619), Emmanuel (636), Johnson & Wales (638) and Maine-Farmington (646) also competed in the event, which is hosted by Southern Maine on an annual basis.

Individually, Endicott's Jackson Wyman finished as the runner-up with a 145 (72-73) card, Husson's Lance Bernier (146, 72-74) and Aaron Bailey of USM (146, 74-72) tied for third, and five golfers finished in a tie for fifth place.

For Saint Joseph's, Jake Brown (Lewiston, Maine) shot a 159 (80-79), Ryan Berard (Millville, Mass.) posted a 167 (85-82), Sean Drake (Lebanon, N.H.) carded a 169 (88-81), and Colin Finn (North Easton, Mass.) added a 179 (88-91) card.

St. Joe's returns to the links on Saturday, October 20th when the team participates in the two-day 2012 GNAC Championship at the Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton, Massachusetts.
