Richardson Named Second Team All-Conference

STANDISH, ME - The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) has announced the 2012 All-GNAC Men's Golf Teams as well as the major award winners and Saint Joseph's junior Kevin Richardson (Coventry, Conn.) has landed on the Second Team.

Richardson, the 2010 GNAC Rookie of the Year, paced the Monks and finished in a tie for sixth individually with a 162 (82-80) score in the 2012 GNAC Championship at Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton, Massachusetts last weekend. The Monks' junior captain was also selected as a member of the 2012 GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Richardson has placed in the top 10 in each of the last three GNAC Championship Tournaments. As a freshman, the Monks' #1 shot a 162 (85-77) and claimed All-GNAC and GNAC top rookie honors after placing fourth overall. Richardson finished in a tie for 10th with a 156 (80-76) card in the 2011 GNAC Championship, hosted by Saint Joseph's at Gorham Country Club.

University of Southern Maine senior Josh Hogan (Falmouth, Maine) has been named the 2012 Player of the Year while Rhode Island College freshman Jonathan Cooper (Berkley, Mass.) was tabbed the Rookie of the Year. Anchormen Head Coach Greg Gammell was named the GNAC Coach of the Year after leading RIC to its second consecutive GNAC Men's Golf Championship.

Hogan bested the GNAC field of 45 golfers at the two-day GNAC Championship, posting a day-one score of 78 before finishing strong with a day-two 76 to combine for a 154 en route to claiming medalist honors. His efforts helped the Huskies earn a runner-up finish.

Cooper, the top rookie finisher in the field, was right behind Hogan with a two-day total of 156. The freshman fired a day-one 77 followed by a day-two 78 to come in just two strokes off the pace. He helped the Anchorman capture their second straight GNAC title as RIC finished eight strokes ahead of the pack.

Gammell, in his seventh year with the Anchorman, was named Coach of the Year for the second year in a row after guiding his squad to back-to-back GNAC titles. In his tenure at Rhode Island College, Gammell has seen the Anchorman now capture two GNAC championships as well as three runner-up finishes.
