Wachowiak Earns GNAC Rookie of the Week Honor

STANDISH, ME – SJC freshman middle blocker Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) has been selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Volleyball Rookie of the Week.

Wachowiak continued to impress during her rookie season in a pair matches last week, when she tallied 16 kills and an otherworldly .667 attack percentage after committing no miscues in 24 attempts. Wachowiak notched six kills on seven bids in a 3-0 sweep over Lesley University on Thursday and produced a team-high 10 kills in 17 attempts versus Rivier University on Saturday.

Through 11 matches for the 8-3 Monks, Wachowiak leads the conference with a .395 attack percentage and ranks eighth in the GNAC with 2.35 kills per set. She is also second on the team in kills (87) and total blocks (19) in 37 sets played this fall.

Wachowiak is the fifth member of the current SJC team to earn GNAC Rookie of the Week accolades, as she joins Emilee Penman (Uncasville, Conn.), Holly Bannister (Cumberland, Maine), Kiah Begley (Berwick, Maine/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Sarah Hawkes (Pownal, Maine) as players who received the honor during their respective rookie seasons.

Wachowiak is also the second player in as many weeks to earn GNAC honors. She joins Hawkes, who claimed GNAC Player of the Week mention following the last reporting period.

Saint Joseph's will play at Daniel Webster College at 7:30 PM on Tuesday evening.
