SJC Women Race to 23rd Place Finish at UMass.-Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Saint Joseph's women's cross country team finished 23rd out of 38 programs with 640 points in the UMass.-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday. Senior Amber Dostie (Standish, Maine) toured the 5K course in 19:05 and placed 32nd out of 272 runners in the event.

For Dostie, the 19:05 effort goes down as the third-fastest in her career and ranks as the fourth-best in program history. The senior standout now owns six of the top 10 times in the history of SJC women's cross country.

Senior Heather Eaton (Lincolnville, Maine) came in 67th with a 19:43 effort while sophomore Marie Harrington (Limerick, Maine) was the third Saint Joseph's runner to cross the line, placing 151st with a 21:11 performance. Senior Audrey Curry (Perry, Maine) finished 205th (22:34), junior Grace Dancoes (Falmouth, Maine) was 214th (22:47), sophomore Kristina Schelling (Pelham, N.H.) placed 224th (23:05) and junior Riley Jones (Winslow, Maine) raced to a 229th place (23:27) finish. Sophomore Marisa Lundy (Merrimac, Mass.) posted a 25:18 time (252nd), rounding out the Monks' finishers on the day.

Eaton, Harrington, Dancoes, Schelling and Lundy all recorded career-best 5K times on Saturday.

East Stroudsburg won the event with 93 team points while New Paltz finished as the runner-up with 113 points. Connecticut College (143 points), Holy Cross (166) and Brandeis University (180) rounded out the top five competing institutions. Saint Joseph's finished as the top Great Northeast Athletic Conference program in the event, besting Johnson & Wales by two slots.

A pair of East Stroudsburg individuals placed in the top three, with Allison Decker claiming top honors with a blazing-fast 17:50 effort and teammate Chelsea Conover finishing close behind with a 17:57 time. Ashley Curran of Connecticut College was the runner up, two seconds off the pace with a 17:52 performance, while Maddie Dolins of Brandeis was fourth (18:03) and Springfield's Gabrielle Gaudreault finished fifth with an 18:07 time.

Saint Joseph's will compete in the Purple Valley Classic, hosted by Williams College at Mt. Greylock High School, next Saturday.
