Women Defeated by UNE, 181-77

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College men's swim team defeated University of New England, 114-85, in a head to head meet on Friday evening. The women suffered a 181-77 defeat at the hands of the Nor'easters.

The women's side featured a litany of contributors. Juniors Anne Fougere (Warner, N.H.) and Brooke Huberdeau (North Andover, Mass.) accounted for the team's two victories, with the former topping the field in the 100-Breast (1:20.01) and the latter winning the 200-Free (2:15.55). Fougere also posted a runner-up time in the 200-Free (2:22.20) while Huberdeau posted a second place finish in the 500-Free (6:01.02) along with a third place effort in the 100-Free (1:02.96).

Sophomore Lauren Halvorsen (South Portland, Maine) placed second in the 1650-Free (20:46.58) and 500-Free (6:09.65) while second-year Danielle Charette (Westfield, Mass.) finished second in the 50-Back (33.54) and was third in the 50-Fly (32.24). Junior Alexandra Krasco (Melrose, Mass.) was second in the 100-Back (1:14.14), third in the 100-Fly (1:15.32), and fourth in the 100-IM (1:15.28).

Sophomore Lauren Prue (Glenburn, Maine) finished third in the 50-Breast (37.78) and 100-Breast (1:24.75) and placed fifth in the 100-IM (1:18.25), junior Claire O'Brien (Saunderstown, R.I.) finished third in the 50-Free (31.49) and was fourth in the 50-Fly (34.28), and junior Olivia Pickering (South Portland, Maine/Cheverus) was fourth in the 100-Back (1:18.40) and fifth in the 50-Back (36.49).

Also, sophomore Brittany Dalphonse (Coventry, R.I.) placed fifth in the 50-Breast (44.87), senior Kelly Carter (Dedham, Mass.) finished fifth in the 50-Free (33.69), sophomore Ashley Tippett (Roslindale, Mass.) was fifth in the 100-Free (1:18.46), freshman Leia Berube (Brewer, Maine) finished fifth in the 100-Back (1:21.62), sophomore Alani Simmons (Methuen, Mass.) placed fifth in the 100-Breast (1:35.52), and freshman Miranda Boe (Nobleboro, Maine) was fifth in the 50-Fly (38.94).

Junior Alexander Gilvey (Windham, Maine) and senior Preston Bowden (Biddeford, Maine) highlighted the event for the men's side by winning all three of their individual events. Gilvey posted individual victories in the 200-Free (1:58.91) and 500-Free (5:27.93) while Bowden won the 50-Back (28.35), 50-Free (24.60) and 100-Back (1:00.47) events.

Senior Adam Gaulin (Belfast, Maine) placed first in the 50-Breast (30.78) and 100-Breast (1:07.39), sophomore Ben Johnson (Belmont, Mass.) won the 100-IM (1:00.24) and was the runner-up in the 100-Fly (57.74), and junior Andrew Merlino (Natick, Mass.) won the 50-Fly (27.24), finished second in the 100-Free (57.15) and also posted a third-place effort in the 100-IM (1:05.87).

Johnson, Gaulin, Gilvey and Bowden helped Saint Joseph's win the 400-Free relay with a 3:39.68 time while Gilvey, Gaulin, Johnson and Merlino worked together to win the 200-Medley relay with a 1:48.67 performance.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Saturday with a home event versus Husson University starting at 1:00 PM.
