Monks Women Race to Eighth Place in Maine Championship

WATERVILLE, ME - The St. Joe's Women's Cross Country team tallied 227 points to place eighth in the Maine State Championship Meet on Saturday at Colby College. Katie Murphy '11 (Baileyville, ME) paced the Monks and placed 62nd overall with a 21:56.90 effort in the 5K event.

With the top three finishers, Colby College grabbed the team title with 31 points. Katrina Gravel captured individual honors with an 18:59.50 effort, 17 seconds ahead of teammate Emma Linhard. For Colby, the team championship is the 10th in 31 years in which the event has been held. Gravel is the Mules' 11th individual winner.

Bowdoin placed second with 44 team points and was followed by Bates (62), Southern Maine (93), University of Maine-Farmington (156), UNE (163), Maine Maritime (222) and Saint Joseph's.

Notable runners for the Monks include Shannon Marden '10 (Dover-Foxcroft, ME), who placed 73rd with a 22:30.60 time, Mary Casinghino '10 (Manchester, NH) (92nd, 23:40.80), Allison Pearsall '12 (West Newbury, MA) (107th, 24:32.50) and Claire Cook '10 (Sangerville, ME) (113th, 24:58.70).

St. Joe's will participate in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Meet on Saturday, October 31st at 11:00 AM.
