NASHUA, NH - Saint Joseph's raced to a fourth-place finish, with 101 team points, in the 2009 GNAC Championship 5K at Rivier College on Saturday morning. Katie Murphy '11 (Baileyville, ME) earned the third All-Conference honor of her career by placing sixth with a 21:55.87 performance in the event.
Emerson College captured the crown with 48 team points, 8 ahead of runner-up Johnson & Wales University. The top two finishers, and three of the top five, hailed from Emerson, while three of the top nine donned the JWU blue and gold. Emerson's Caprice Cappucci collected individual honors with a 20:52.04 effort, just one second ahead of teammate Cat Viglienzoni..
Emmanuel placed third with 96 points and was followed by St. Joe's, Lasell (127), Norwich (130), St. Joseph (CT) (204), Rivier (213), Albertus Magnus (229) and Mount Ida (255).
Shannon Marden '10 (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) toured the 5K course in 22:32.90 to place 14th and Mary Casinghino '10 (Manchester, NH) wasn't far behind, in 18th with a 22:44.27 effort. Allison Pearsall '12 (West Newbury, MA) (24:21.25, 32nd) and Claire Cook '10 (Sangerville, ME) (24:33.21) rounded out the top five for the Monks.
Saint Joseph's will compete in the ECAC Championships, hosted by Williams College, on Saturday, November 7th at 11:00 AM.
