STANDISH, ME - The Saint Joseph's College Cross Country teams
kicked off the 2009 season by hosting a relay against University of
New England and a 5K event with Newbury, UNE, Southern Maine and
Mount Ida on Friday afternoon.
St. Joe's and UNE each made two mixed teams of eight runners for
the relay event, which consisted of eight different groups running
5K with three minute intervals on a wave start. The Nor'easters
defeated the Monks, 51-29, on a point system based on individual
finishes within the pairings. Mary
Casinghino '10 (Manchester, NH) (23:52),
Katie Murphy '11 (Baileyville,
ME) (24:06) and Shannon Marden
'10 (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) (24:24) paced the Royal Blue in the relay
competition.
Allison Pearsall '12 (West
Newbury, MA) paced the SJC women in the 5K open event with a 25:05
time and was followed by Ashley
Condon '13 (Sumner, ME) (29:00),
Ashley Mead '11 (York, ME)
(29:29) and Mary Jo
Stanton '10 (Roslindale, MA) (29:47).
The Monks will travel to Biddeford, ME on Saturday, September 12th
to compete against University of New England at 11:30 PM.
