Women's Cross Country 4th in 2010 Opener

FARMINGTON, ME – The Saint Joseph's College Women's Cross Country team placed fourth with 100 points in the UMF Invitational at Mt. Blue High School on Saturday.

Danielle Cusack '13 (Portland, ME/Deering) paced the Monks with a 17:06.36 effort in the 4K event.  She placed ninth overall in her first collegiate competition, which was the season opener for the Royal Blue.

Host-institution University of Maine at Farmington won the meet with 30 points and five runners in the top 10 overall. The Beavers edged out University of New England (39 points), while Husson University (62), St. Joe's, Unity College (161), Maine Maritime (169) and Newbury College (169) rounded out the team scoring.

Husson senior Angela Stauble (Amherst, NH) led the field with a 15:52.03 performance, while UNE freshman Kelly Hackett (Vernon, NJ) placed second with a 16:18.26 effort.

For the Monks, Christina Meehan '11 (Nashua, NH) finished 19th (17:58.75), Katie Murphy '11 (Baileyville, ME) was 25th (18:38.06), Ashley Condon '13 (Sumner, ME) placed 31st (18:56.88) and Laura Mills '13 (Mattapoisett, MA) finished 34th (19:24.38).

St. Joe's will hit the trails again next Saturday at the University of New England Invitational. The event, which takes place at Rotary Park in Biddeford, will begin at 10:45 AM.
