Women Place Sixth at UNE Invitational

BIDDEFORD, ME – Junior Heather Eaton (Lincolnville, Maine) placed 10th with a 20:08 effort to help Saint Joseph's College earn a sixth-place finish with 201 team points in the University of New England Invitational at Rotary Park on Saturday.

Salve Regina University placed five runners in the top 11 en route to claiming top team honors with 33 points, just 10 points ahead of event host University of New England. Southern Maine (107 points), Endicott College (112) and Gordon College (131) finished ahead of Saint Joseph's, while Curry College (215), Maine-Presque Isle (231), Mass.-Maritime (232), Plymouth State (258) and Nichols College (277) rounded out the placing teams on Saturday. Lyndon State, Roger Williams, Maine-Machias and Unity College also sent individual runners to participate but did not score.

UNE's Britney Sorbello posted a 19:17 time to claim top individual honors in a competitive top four that was separated by just 13 seconds.

For the Monks, Marie Harrington (Limerick, Maine) placed 70th with a 23:36 performance and Audrey Curry (Perry, Maine) was 84th with a 24:07 time. Mikaela Rowell (Derry, N.H.) (88, 24:19), Victoria Ramos (North Scituate, R.I.) (108, 25:57), Melissa Deplanche (Dover, N.H.) (114, 26:36), Cynthia Andrews (Seal Harbor, Maine) (122, 27:48), Gabby Lodge (Westbrook, Maine) (123, 28:09), Kristina Schelling (Pelham, N.H.) (127, 29:19) and Sarah Bakun (130, 31:11) also raced for the Royal Blue.

Saint Joseph's will hit the trails again next Saturday when the team participates in the USM Invitational at Narragansett Elementary School.
