STANDISH, Maine – Bates College won both ends of the 2021 Runnin' Monks Invitational at Saint Joseph's College on Saturday. The Bobcats' women posted 24 points to win the 6K race while the Bates men tallied 23 points to win the 8K event.
WOMEN:
The Bobcats, led by runner-up Isabel May, placed five of the top individuals en route to winning the 6K women's race. Emerson College finished second with 69 points, Simmons College was third with 74 points, and Saint Joseph's placed fourth with 93 points. Thomas College (138) and UMaine-Presque Isle (145) rounded out the six team field.
Emerson senior Lucy Kenig-Ziesler paced the field with a 24:55.1 time, three seconds ahead of May (24:58.6), while Simmons senior Alice Najimy finished third with a 25:02.1 performance. Bates sophomore Rebecca Anderson (25:12.0) and Bates freshman Phoebe Pohl (25:16.4) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Junior Kelsey Kennedy (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) finished 14th (26:20.2)
- Senior Julia Heroux (Albion, R.I.) was 24th (27:26.4)
- Senior Emma Allen (Jefferson, Maine) placed 25th (27:27.7)
- Junior Caity Kendrick (Richmond, Maine) finished 28th (28:10.1)
- Senior Carly Jordan (Turner, Maine) placed 30th (28:10.1)
- Senior Samantha VanDeMoere (Thornton, N.H.) was 36th (29:05.2)
- Freshman Terry Cassetta (Sandy Hook, Conn.) finished 47th (33:25.2)
MEN:
Bates featured seven runners in the top nine and finished with 23 points, well ahead of runner-up Thomas College, which notched 67 points in the 8K race. Saint Joseph's finished third with 81 points while Emerson College (84 points) and UMaine-Presque Isle (118) rounded out the list of competing institutions.
Thomas College senior Jarrod Hooper toured the 8K course in 27:57.5 to claim top individual honors and finish comfortably ahead of Bates College freshman Andrew Mottur, who was second with a 28:10.0 effort. Bates Junior Daniel McConnell was third (28:11.0), SJC senior Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) placed fourth (28:11.3), and Bates freshman Cam Stathos finished fifth (28:29.3).
FOR THE MONKS:
- Senior Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) paced the Monks and finished fourth with a 28:11.3 time
- Senior Jacob Huberdeau (Atkinson, N.H.) placed 10th with a 29:03.2 performance
- Sophomore Nick Carmosino (Acton, Mass.) was 25th (32:02.6)
- Senior Tyler Nadeau (Farmingdale, Maine) finished 28th (32:50.0)
- Freshman Ethan Shaw (Scarborough, Maine) placed 29th (33:15.7)
- Junior Devin Abbott (Berwick, Maine) was 30th (33:25.7)
- Senior Cameron Rice (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) finished 39th (39:16.2)
- Senior Shawn Breen (Ashland, N.H.) placed 43rd (47:20.6)
